Do you or a loved one struggle with Dyslexia? We’re offering a week of free Dyslexia tuition in support of Dyslexia Awareness Week
Dyslexia is something which affects hundreds of thousands of people across the UK, and for most students with Dyslexia, learning can be even more of a challenge. However, dyslexia should never hold someone back from achieving their goals, whether that be academically or in their career.
So, we decided to take action, and in support of Dyslexia Awareness Week 2019 (7th to 11th October) we’re offering free hourly support sessions with experienced Dyslexia tutors. These specialist workshops will help participants to learn invaluable skills and proven techniques to aid them with their studies and/or job.
So what exactly is Dyslexia? Dyslexia is a diagnosable learning difficulty that can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling. Unlike other learning conditions, it does not affect a person’s level of intelligence but can make expressing oneself through writing and interpreting written information hard. It's estimated up to 1 in every 10 people in the UK has some degree of Dyslexia*.
We will be running workshops for primary and secondary students as well as adults, from 5pm until 6pm every day of Dyslexia Awareness week at our education centre in London. Due to limited spaces, students will need to register their attendance in advance to secure a spot.
During the workshop, our specialist tutors will work with groups of participants, grouped by age, to teach them skills and techniques so they can more effectively absorb and interpret written information.
The workshops will be held at our education centre at WeWork, 5 Merchant Square, Paddington, London, W2 1AY, from 5pm until 6pm, Monday through to Friday of the week commencing the 7th October.
Techniques that will be covered will include multi-sensory learning, where students are taught to say letters out loud, whilst writing the letter in the air, so they are effectively using more than one sense to learn the letter. Visual mapping will also be taught as it’s an effective way for Dyslexic learners to digest information, through drawing a picture-based mind map instead of writing traditional written notes.
Alex Dyer, founder of Tutor House, said,
“Every person, whether a child or adult, deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Dyslexia is a condition that can fly under the radar, with many believing that students who have the condition are just not that bright, which couldn’t be further from the truth!
“I myself have dyslexia, and know first hand the problems it can cause, which is why we’re so passionate about supporting and educating those who have it. When equipped with the right tools and techniques, dyslexia needn’t impact a person’s education or prospects. I’m confident these workshops will raise awareness of the condition, and help the participants better understand and deal with their own dyslexia.”
